Private Daniel Peter DeFreest Enlisted on September 19,1864 at Albany, NY as a Private. He was 20 years old at enlistment. On September 20, 1864 he mustered into NY 23rd. Light Artillery. On December 31, 1864 he transferred into "E" Co. NY 8th. Light Artillery. Son of Lucas DeFreest and Gertrude Ostrander. Married Margaret C. Randall. b 9/16/1844 d 9/28/1918
Corporal Daniel W. DeFreest Enlisted on August 12, 1862 at Troy, NY as a Private. He was 23 years old at enlistment. On August 27, 1862 he mustered into "H" Co. NY 125th. Infantry. On September 3, 1863 he transferred into Veterans Reserve Corps. He was listed as POW 9/15/1862 Harper's Ferry, Va. Paroled 9/16/1862. Son of Ezra DeFreest and Agnes Peck. He married Gertrude Van Vranken. b 1838 d 11/27/1913.
Private David DeFreest Enlisted August 8, 1862 at Bethlehem, NY as a Private. He was 42 years old at enlistment. On August 9, 1862 he mustered into "K" Co. NY 7th. Heavy Artillery.
Private Jerome E. DeFreest Enlisted on July 12, 1864 as a private. His enlistment papers state he was 21 years years old at the time of enlistment. However, he was really 18 years old. He also enlisted under the name"Samuel F. Mason". I suspect he was under age at the time and wanted to enlist under an alias. On July 12, 1864 he mustered into "H" Co. Massachusetts 4th. Cavalry. He mustered out on November 14, 1865 at Richmond, Va. Son of Jacob DeFreest and Maria Lynd. He married Eliza Waters. B. 11/26/1846 d. 12/26/1925
Corporal John W. DeFreest Enlisted on August 11, 1862 at Troy, NY as a Corporal. He was 18 years old at enlistment. On August 27, 1862 he was mustered into "H" Co. NY 125th. Infantry. He was Killed in Action on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pa. (Pickett's Charge) Son of Ezra DeFreest and Agnes Peck. b 1844 d 7/3/1863.
Corporal Lansing W. DeFreest Drafted on August 28, 1863 at Canandaigua, NY as a Private. He was 18 years old at enlistment. On September 1, 1863 he mustered into "K" Co. NY 64th. Infantry. On May 12, 1864 he was wounded in action in Spotsylvania by minnie ball. He was transferred on October 13, 1864 from "K" Co. to "G" Co. Transferred into "D" Co. Veteran Reserve Corps 14th Infantry April 2, 1865. Mustered out August 3, 1865. Married Sarah R. Durham. b 7/4/1845 d. 10/26/1918.
Artificer Livingston DeFreest Enlisted August 19, 1862 at New York City, NY as a Private. He was 43 years old at enlistment. On August 19, 1862 he mustered into "A" Co. NY 15th. Engineers . On June 18, 1863 he was transferred from company A to company B. Promoted to Artificer and to Corporal. Mustered out July 7, 1865. Died at Lincoln Hospital Washington DC of disease one day after mustering out. Son of Rev. David R. DeFreest and Mary W. Martin. Married Elizabeth Moore. b November 4, 1818 d July 8, 1865. Livingston was my Second Great Grandfather.
Private Lowallen DeFreest Enlisted on October 16, 1862 at Guilderland, NY as a Private. He was 18 years old at enlistment. On November 29, 1862 he mustered into "A" Co. NY 25th Infantry. On June 28, 1863 he transferred into "I" Co. NY 44th. Infantry. On October 11, 1864 he transferred into "K" Co. NY 140th. Infantry. On September 23, 1864 he transferred from company I to company A. He was listed as Wounded May 5, 1864 Wilderness, VA. Son of Martin DeFreest and Barbara Sharp. He married Margaret Hilton. b July 7, 1844 d October 22, 1909
Corporal Martin DeFreest Enlisted November 30, 1861. Co. "B" 5th. Regiment California Infantry. Mustered Out December 12, 1864. Married Elizabeth Johnston. b 1825 d April 18, 1900.
Private Sylvester DeFreest Enlisted on August 23, 1862 at Troy, NY as a Private. He was 32 years old at enlistment. On August 27, 1862 he mustered into "F" Co. NY 125th. Infantry. He was discharged on July 11, 1865 at Albany, NY. Discharged while in hospitol at Troy, NY. He was listed as: POW 9/15/1862 Harper's Ferry, VA. Paroled 9/16/1862. POW 12/1/1863 Mine Run, VA. (Paroled). b 1830 d 9/13/1907.
2nd. Lieut. William H. DeFreest Enlisted on May 5, 1861 as a 2nd. Lieutenant. He was 40 years old at enlistment. On July 30, 1861 he was commisioned into "B" Co. Iowa 1st. Cavalry. He was cashiered on August 21, 1863. Born in New York.
